As of late 2011, the federal deficit was $14.5 trillion. This is such a large number it's hard to fathom. And the difficulty is that now we are accruing interest at a rate that makes it hard to keep that number from growing exponentially.
Obviously this is a very partisan issue. Conservatives want to just chop the federal government down to size while liberals would make a few cuts but really would prefer increasing revenue through taxing the rich and eliminating tax loopholes.
The question is, where is the compromise? Let's do what Washington cannot and find the middle ground.
